WhatsApp is working on a new feature that could allow users to edit captions on photo and video Status updates after they have been posted. The feature was recently spotted in an Android beta build and is still under development.
Several reports indicate that WhatsApp may provide around 15 minutes to let a user edit the Status caption after it has been posted. Meta has not yet confirmed the length of the editing window or release date for this feature.
Currently, WhatsApp doesn’t support editing a Status caption after its publication. If there’s an error, the user has to delete the existing Status and repost it.
This can be frustrating as it means beginning the process from scratch despite having received reactions on the previous one. The new feature is meant to solve this problem.
The move builds on WhatsApp's existing editing tools. The platform already lets users edit sent messages within a limited period after delivery.
Adding a similar option to Status updates would bring consistency across different parts of the app and give users greater control over shared content.
Meta has steadily expanded WhatsApp's Status features in recent years. The company has introduced voice Status updates, audience controls, reactions, and other tools aimed at increasing engagement.

WhatsApp hasn’t announced a release date for its new feature. There is also a possibility that the final version of this beta feature may differ significantly, as it is still under development. However, adding this feature directly addresses a key user need, delivering one of the most valuable upgrades to Status uploads.
