Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day faces an AI controversy after fans flagged concept art inside its official collector’s book. The 208-page artbook arrived on August 18, shortly after the film’s release, with one image drawing criticism across social media.

The image, titled ‘Big City, Little Spider,’ credits concept artist Scott McInnes and depicts a New York street scene. Fans questioned possible AI use after spotting warped taxis, distorted buildings, strange windows, and a damaged fire escape. The concerns spread across X, Reddit, and ResetEra after The Artbook Collector highlighted the artwork.

The discovery has created fresh debate around Marvel AI use in major productions. Fans argue that a premium artbook should clearly identify any artificial intelligence involvement in its creative material.

The controversy also arrives after Marvel recently reduced its visual development team. The team included artists, illustrators, and designers involved in shaping films before production. Marvel has not publicly confirmed AI involvement in the disputed artwork.

The Direct reported that ‘Big City, Little Spider’ appears to be the only artwork showing clear signs of possible AI generation. Other concept pieces reportedly remain free from similar concerns.

Marvel has faced AI criticism before, including its AI-assisted Secret Invasion opening sequence in 2023. The latest controversy therefore adds another chapter to the studio’s wider AI debate.

The discussion also reflects Hollywood’s larger struggle over AI and creative jobs. Avengers directors Joe and Anthony Russo recently called AI a ‘potentially valuable tool’ while stressing artist control.

For now, the backlash targets one disputed concept image rather than the film’s visual effects. The episode still raises questions about transparency, artistic credit, and AI’s growing role inside Hollywood.
