Sony India has launched FX5 Cinema Line camera in India, bringing internal RAW recording and Open Gate shooting. The new full-frame camera targets professional filmmakers with advanced video controls, AI autofocus, and improved image stabilization.

The company introduced the camera alongside optional accessories for monitoring, audio recording, and timecode synchronization. Sony FX5 combines a fully stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with the BIONZ XR2 processor.

Its dedicated AI processing unit supports intelligent subject recognition and advanced autofocus. The camera also introduces Open Gate recording to Sony's FX series, giving filmmakers greater flexibility across different video formats.

The biggest addition comes through internal 16-bit X-OCN RAW recording. Filmmakers can record X-OCN LT, X-OCN C1, and X-OCN C2 formats without an external RAW recorder. The C1 and C2 codecs also help reduce file sizes while preserving image quality.

For video production, the Sony FX5 supports 5K recording at up to 60fps. It also captures 4K footage at 120fps and Full HD video at 240fps. Its 3:2 full-pixel sensor readout supports flexible framing for widescreen, vertical and anamorphic projects.

Sony claims more than 15 stops of dynamic range when shooting in S-Log3. The camera offers base ISO settings of 800, 4,000 and 12,800. Dual Gain Shooting helps control noise while retaining shadow details and smoother tonal transitions.

The camera also features AI-based human pose estimation for recognizing eyes, heads, and bodies. Its five-axis in-body stabilization includes Active and Dynamic Active modes for handheld shooting. A 3.5-inch, four-axis adjustable touchscreen supports monitoring from different shooting angles.

Sony India also introduced three accessories: the DVF-EL1 OLED viewfinder, XLR-H2 handle and VMC-BNCU1 timecode adapter. The optional XLR handle supports four-channel audio input and 32-bit float recording.

Sony India Head of Imaging and Professional Solution Business Mukesh Srivastava said the FX5 expands creative flexibility. He highlighted its new full-frame sensor, internal RAW capabilities, and Open Gate support.

The FX5B variant in India starts at Rs. 5,09,990. The standard Sony FX5 costs Rs. 5,61,990, while accessories carry separate pricing.

Sony has listed the DVF-EL1 viewfinder at Rs. 1,05,990 and the XLR-H2 handle at Rs. 1,33,990. The VMC-BNCU1 timecode adapter costs Rs. 13,990. Buyers can purchase the camera through Sony Centers, authorized retailers, and ShopatSC.com.

Sony also plans a Version 2.0 firmware update for August 2027 or later. The update will introduce additional X-OCN high-frame-rate recording and 3:2 Open Gate support for XAVC S-I. It will also bring vertical shooting interface improvements and a frame-grab function.
