Samsung Gallery is about to lose its auto-sync feature with Microsoft OneDrive for photos. On September 30, 2026, support will be withdrawn, but before the change comes, Samsung seems to have another backup option.
A new version of its Gallery Cloud Sync service was reportedly spotted on the Galaxy Store. Its listing points to Google Cloud as a possible new home for Samsung Gallery photos and videos. However, the South Korean smartphone giant did not say anything about it.
The reported Gallery Cloud Sync version is 1.6.09.31, and it is expected to include support for Google Photos. The new setup will probably allow Galaxy users to back up photos and videos from Samsung Gallery to Google’s cloud. Users may also be able to see the backed-up content through both Samsung Gallery and Google Photos. The service is expected to be tied to Samsung devices and may require a Samsung account.Notably, users who already have photos stored in OneDrive must be backed up before the support ends, or else they will lose those photos as October begins. A Google-based backup could make the transition easier for Galaxy users. It could also bring Samsung Gallery closer to Google Photos, which is already widely used for photo storage.

Samsung’s reported move points to a wider shift in the smartphone market. Phone makers do not always need to run every cloud service on their own. Working with large cloud platforms can give users more storage choices while reducing the need to build and maintain separate systems.
