Samsung is currently developing a new foldable phone that aims to push the limits of foldable technology once again. This follows confirmation from TM Roh, the head of Samsung's smartphone division, that the tech giant is working on a tri-fold phone, similar to Huawei’s Mate X2 Ultimate Edition.

The prototype has reportedly made its first public appearance quietly at a side event of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

According to South Korean outlet Dailian, the upcoming smartphone was displayed at the ‘K-Tech Showcase’ held at the Air Dome of Gyeongju Expo Park in Gyeongbuk-do.

How will Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold look?

Videos of the event reveal a device with a bigger, continuous display utilizing a dual infolding mechanism that opens into a G-shaped structure. This build contrasts with Huawei’s Z-shaped fold, which was seen on the Mate XT Ultimate Edition. Interestingly, the prototype showed no visible crease lines, hinting at advancements in Samsung’s hinge and screen design.

How Big is Display Likely to Be?

As we await official announcements from Samsung, it is anticipated that the Galaxy Z Trifold will be a foldable phone featuring an impressive 10-inch display. This design would give it a form factor similar to that of a tablet.

The company is expected to make the official announcement, along with the specs, in late November or early December, when the device is likely to be introduced.

What Leaks Reveal About Design and Camera Configuration?

According to Android Authority, the leftmost part of the back will feature a triple camera arrangement, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.

The middle panel will possibly have the front camera, while the right-most panel will be empty. Leaks from a One UI 8 beta build also suggest the phone may use inward-folding hinges, with Samsung possibly warning users not to fold the right panel completely flat due to the protruding camera bump.

How Much Will It Cost?

In South Korea, the price of Galaxy Z Trifold is reportedly close to 3 million won, which roughly translates to Rs 1.84 lakh. Adding the taxes in India, it could exceed Rs 2 lakh to position itself in the ultra-premium category.

If Samsung can stick to its rumored year-end launch timeline, Galaxy Z Trifold will be the company’s most ambitious foldable yet and a milestone in the evolution of smartphone design.
