Gaming PC owners in Germany now have an electricity tariff designed specifically for households with potentially high electricity consumption. SWK ENERGIE, a municipal utility based in Krefeld, has introduced a plan called meinGAMING, targeting households where gaming, streaming, and multiple high-performance devices can push annual electricity use well above average. The tariff offers three consumption profiles, ranging from 2,500 to 5,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year.
The unusual plan comes as high-end gaming PCs can use significant amounts of electricity, particularly systems equipped with flagship processors and graphics cards. However, the tariff doesn't supply special electricity to gaming hardware. Instead, it uses a pricing structure designed for households with relatively high overall consumption.
The Casual Gamer category targets people who play at least 10 hours a week and have an estimated annual household consumption of 2,500 kWh. The Pro Gamer tier targets heavier users, including people with high-end PCs, multiple systems, streaming setups, or modding interests. It assumes 30 or more hours of gaming each week and 3,500 kWh of annual household consumption.
The third option, Gaming Households, is designed for families or shared homes with at least two active gamers. It assumes gaming across PCs and consoles for 50 or more hours a week and uses 5,000 kWh as the annual consumption estimate.
The financial model behind meinGAMING is relatively straightforward. Customers pay a higher fixed charge but receive a lower price per kWh. That means the plan is more likely to benefit households with substantial overall electricity consumption rather than occasional gamers. The provider also advertises an energy price guarantee of up to 24 months.
Importantly, the calculation covers total household electricity use, not just gaming. A customer who plays frequently but has low overall consumption may not save money compared with a conventional electricity plan.

According to SWK ENERGIE, the electricity supplied through meinGAMING comes from renewable sources. Still, consumers need to compare the tariff with local alternatives since its value depends on household usage, location, and the applicable rates.
