Roblox is facing fresh pressure from the US Senate over child safety. The Senate Judiciary Committee claimed that the free-to-play gaming platform generates most of its revenue from a mostly juvenile player base, despite promising to protect them from online harassment. The committee submitted a report that reveals cases of child exploitation and predatory behavior on the platform. Further, the committee will examine Roblox’s private moderation data and internal safety records.

The report mentioned that in recent years, police have handled numerous cases where the criminals sexually or emotionally abused children or teenagers they have met on Roblox. However, the lawmakers have asked for more data from 2023, 2024, and 2025 to understand the scenario better, concerning ‘sexual exploitation, predation, or abuse of users under 18.’

However, this is not the first time that any government agency has pointed out loopholes on Roblox.  The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children found cases where Roblox did not clearly identify child victims. It also raised concerns about reports involving the sexual exploitation of children. Lawmakers say missing details could make it harder for police to investigate these cases.

Roblox says it has been working to improve its safety systems. Roblox recently implemented an age-verification system to understand who’s trying to log in. Now players need facial age estimation, ID age verification, and verified parental consent. However, these can easily be bypassed.

The company has also implemented AI tools to detect potential grooming attempts. Its Sentinel system looks for risky interactions. Human teams then review flagged cases. The Senate inquiry adds to the growing pressure on Roblox. The platform has faced wider criticism over how it protects young players.

For Roblox, better safety tools may not be enough. The company also needs to demonstrate that its reports provide authorities with the information they need. The latest Senate action suggests lawmakers will be watching closely.
