Gaming platform Roblox has introduced age-based accounts to strengthen safety controls for younger users. The move follows growing criticism over child protection gaps and rising concerns from regulators across global markets.
Age groups will be established to determine how Roblox can manage player interactions. Children aged 5 to 8 years will be allowed access to a special, more secure zone called ‘Kids’. Players aged 9 to 15 years will have limited access, which increases over time.
In addition, chat will not be enabled for children by default. Visibility of content and game selection will be limited to discourage any inappropriate activity among players. However, accounts will be updated when the user moves between age groups.
Verification tools such as facial recognition, ID checks, and parent approvals will be implemented in Roblox. Parents will be able to connect their accounts to their children’s and manage settings, monitor activity, restrict interactions, and block access to some games.
Also, developers will be under stricter requirements. All games targeted at kids should be subject to stricter moderation. High-quality standards will protect them from harmful elements.
