Ripple and Coinbase have announced a partnership to expand access to Ripple USD (RLUSD), Ripple’s US dollar-backed stablecoin, across Coinbase’s retail and institutional platforms. The move strengthens RLUSD’s distribution in the United States and adds new use cases for institutional users.
The stablecoin will now be available on Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange and the Coinbase Retail app. Customers can trade and manage RLUSD across these platforms, while institutional clients gain access to deeper liquidity and integrated services.
Users can convert US dollars and eligible USD-denominated stablecoins into RLUSD at a 1:1 ratio. This gives retail and institutional customers a direct route to hold and use the stablecoin within the Coinbase ecosystem.
Deposits and withdrawals will be supported on three networks: the XRP Ledger (XRPL), Base and Ethereum. This multi-chain approach allows users to move RLUSD across major blockchain environments and use it in a wider range of applications.
Ripple will also provide liquidity on Base to support RLUSD’s growth on the network. Ripple’s senior vice president of stablecoins, Jack McDonald, said, “The partnership would make RLUSD available through platforms that institutions already trust.”
The company expects this to improve market depth and make the stablecoin more useful for trading, payments and decentralized finance activity.
RLUSD is designed to maintain a stable value against the US dollar. It is redeemable for US dollars and backed by reserves that include US dollar deposits, short-term US Treasuries and other cash equivalents.
The Coinbase integration comes as stablecoins gain wider acceptance among financial institutions, payment companies and blockchain-based platforms. For Ripple, the deal expands RLUSD’s reach beyond its native ecosystem and positions it alongside major stablecoins in the US market.
