Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is finally out on PlayStation 5. It is the third entry in the Asobo Studio series that debuted in 2019. Although it was released in 2026, the gameplay timeline is set 15 years before the storyline of Requiem.
Even before release, the game stated that the protagonist, Sophia, is going to be a fierce character who sets out on a journey to uncover secrets from her past. Thus, throughout the gameplay, players will follow Sophia who travels to the island of Crete. Her journey soon becomes a fight for survival as she faces dangerous creatures, ancient secrets, and a growing threat tied to the past. Players will find a mix of exploration, puzzles, stealth, and close combat.
The story also brings back the emotional side that the series is renowned for. Sophia and her friends must work together as they explore the island and discover its secrets.
If players don't focus much on extra content, the story will be done within 11 hours. Those who dive into the side quests and explore the world thoroughly may take longer (around 17 to 20 hours) depending on their skill level. The game has a bigger world, but it keeps the tense feel of the earlier A Plague Tale games.
The Minoan setting gives Resonance a clear identity. Players travel through ancient ruins, underground areas, and forgotten places inspired by the history and myths of Crete. The game uses this setting to build a world filled with mystery. Ancient stories and strange creatures become part of Sophia’s journey. The ruins also give players plenty to explore between fights.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy moves the series beyond its earlier setting while keeping its focus on story and survival. Its new hero, ancient world, and combat give the game a fresh feel.
