POCO is set to introduce its latest X-series smartphone in India, with the 5G models scheduled to launch on September 4. The phone is positioned as a feature-packed mid-range device, with a major focus on battery capacity, display quality, and everyday durability.
POCO’s positioning of the X8 against competing phones with similar processors and battery-focused hardware could determine how attractive the new handset is once it officially goes on sale.
The battery is likely to be one of the biggest talking points around the POCO X8. While the global version comes with an 8,340mAh silicon-carbon battery, the Indian variant is expected to get an even larger 9,000mAh unit. That could give the phone an edge for users who spend long hours gaming, streaming videos, or using mobile data.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chipset powers the handset. The global model has up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of storage. On the software side, the smartphone runs Android 16 with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 interface.
The X8 also gets a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The panel supports HDR10+ and 12-bit color depth, while Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects against everyday scratches and knocks.
For photography, the POCO X8 features a 50-megapixel main rear camera with optical image stabilization, supported by a 2-megapixel depth sensor. A 16-megapixel front camera handles selfies and video calls.
POCO has also packed several software-based camera features into the phone, including AI-powered image editing tools and an underwater shooting mode.
Charging support is rated at 67W on the global model, while wired reverse charging goes up to 22.5W. The silicon-carbon battery is claimed to retain at least 80% of its capacity after 1,600 charging cycles, which should help with long-term battery performance.
The phone is also built to withstand demanding conditions. It carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance. Other features include an in-display fingerprint scanner, NFC, an infrared sensor, and stereo speakers.

The POCO X8 5G will officially debut in India on September 4. The company is expected to reveal the Indian pricing, RAM and storage configurations, color options, and other market-specific details at the launch event.
The global model is available in Black, White and Orange, although the color choices for India may differ. With its large battery, Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 processor, high-refresh-rate AMOLED screen and extensive water- and dust-resistance ratings, the POCO X8 is shaping up as a strong contender in the mid-range smartphone segment.
