Phantom Blade Zero director Liang Qiwei has confirmed at least 50 boss encounters, with the number potentially increasing alongside the game's extensive weapon selection.

Phantom Blade Zero, the upcoming action RPG from Chinese developer S-Game, will feature at least 50 bosses, according to game director and studio founder Liang Qiwei, also known as Soulframe. The game will include 30 main weapons and more than 20 secondary weapons, all obtainable by defeating bosses.

The details emerged during a group interview with Japanese gaming publication 4Gamer, following a hands-on preview event in Beijing. The developers also discussed the game's enemy designs and how combat encounters will become more varied as players progress.

Phantom Blade Zero to Feature at Least 50 Bosses

Liang confirmed that the number of bosses is closely tied to the game's weapon system. Players can acquire weapons by defeating bosses, creating a direct connection between the available equipment and the number of major encounters.

"Actually, there are more than 30 units. There are 30 main weapons and about 20 secondary weapons, all of which you can obtain by defeating the boss. There are bosses as many as there are weapons, so there are at least 50 of them, and in reality, there might be even more," Liang said, as reported by 4Gamer.

Enemy Designs Will Draw from Chinese Martial Arts

S-Game also plans to maintain consistency across the game's different enemy types through its kung-fu punk aesthetic, which combines traditional Chinese martial arts influences with new elements.

According to Liang, players will encounter enemies of different sizes, shield-bearing opponents and enemies riding horses. Despite these differences, the designs will share a common foundation rooted in traditional Chinese wuxia, with the developers adding their own ideas.

The variety will extend beyond appearance. Enemies will differ in their physical characteristics and combat strategies, requiring players to adapt to different opponents.

Liang also indicated that enemy variety would increase in the second half of the game, suggesting that players can expect more diverse encounters as they advance through the story.

Phantom Blade Zero Release Date and Platforms

Phantom Blade Zero is scheduled to launch on October 29, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and PC. The game blends Chinese wuxia themes with steampunk-inspired technology and fast-paced action.

Its large weapon selection and boss-focused progression are central to the combat experience. With at least 50 bosses confirmed, S-Game is building a game that encourages players to explore different weapons and adjust their approach to each encounter.

The director's latest comments also suggest that the developers are aiming to sustain enemy variety throughout the campaign, with more challenges awaiting players in its later stages.
