Perplexity has released its Comet AI browser for Android users in a significant push into the mobile ecosystem dominated by Google Chrome. The expansion to Android greatly widens the reach for Perplexity, following its traction on desktops, at a time when demand for AI-powered tools is sharply rising.
Comet enables users to search, read, and interact with webpages while receiving real-time assistance from Perplexity’s built-in AI. The browser can explain complex information, answer queries, and summarise pages instantly. It is equipped with features that make everyday browsing faster and more intuitive.
Comet carries forward many capabilities from its desktop variant. Users can converse directly with it using its Voice Mode, get immediate summaries of tabs, and ask questions without having to toggle between applications.
Ad clutter and distractions are further reduced by a browser ad blocker. Perplexity has confirmed more additions are planned, including enhanced voice features and native password management. For now, users will have to depend on Android's default password manager within the app.
Android smartphones dominate the Indian market and have users who depend on the pre-installed Google apps, especially Chrome. This situation presents an enormous market for Perplexity.
Changing the default browser settings takes only a few taps, allowing the curious user to give Comet a try without any inconvenience. The Play Store ecosystem’s flexibility gives the company more visibility, enabling even the smaller players to compete in a market space that has been dominated by the giants for a long time.
The timing is strategic: AI adoption is growing fast, and users are exploring alternatives that provide integrated, intelligent, and personalized digital experiences more in line with their needs.

Comet is available for free in the Google Play Store. Once downloaded, the AI assistant, voice mode, and summarization features can be immediately used. The interface is designed for a clean, no-learning-curve experience.
