Oracle reportedly plans another layoff round before September 1, with some teams possibly facing double-digit reductions. The move follows a 21,000-worker decline in fiscal 2026 as the company expands AI infrastructure and manages rising cloud investment costs.

Oracle reportedly plans another round of layoffs in August as it seeks to lower payroll costs. Business Insider reported that managers received requests to identify employees who could lose their jobs. The proposed cuts may occur before Oracle’s second fiscal quarter starts on September 1.

The cuts ‘could reach double-digit percentages’ on some teams, according to the report. Oracle declined to comment, leaving the timing and total number of affected workers unconfirmed. The plan follows a sharp workforce decline during the company’s previous fiscal year. The proposed action would extend a cost review that continued through the company’s 2026 financial year.

Managers Asked to Identify Affected Workers

Oracle has prepared plans for job cuts across parts of its business, according to people familiar with the matter. An internal document reportedly outlined the proposed reductions. Managers must now submit names of workers who may become part of the process.

The company has not disclosed which divisions or locations may face cuts. It also has not issued notices detailing the planned scale. Therefore, the August schedule remains unconfirmed as Oracle starts its second quarter on September 1.

The report did not identify any final selection criteria or state when affected employees would receive formal notices. Consequently, the scope may differ across teams, roles and offices.

Oracle Layoffs Follow a 13% Workforce Drop

Meanwhile, Oracle’s workforce fell from about 162,000 to 141,000 during fiscal 2026. That represents a reduction of roughly 21,000 employees, or 13%. The fiscal year ended on May 31, 2026.

Not every departure resulted from a direct layoff. Company filings linked the lower headcount to restructuring, employee departures, acquisitions and other organizational changes. Oracle employed 49,000 people in the United States and 92,000 internationally at fiscal year-end.

Oracle recorded $1.84 billion in restructuring and related expenses during fiscal 2026. Those costs included employee severance and other exit expenses. The comparable figure reached $374 million one year earlier, showing a large increase in restructuring charges.

AI Infrastructure Spending Drives Cost Focus

Additionally, Oracle expanded its data centers and computing capacity as demand for artificial intelligence services grew. Capital spending reached $55.7 billion in fiscal 2026. The company also reported negative free cash flow of $23.7 billion for the year.

Oracle raised $43 billion through debt and another $5 billion through stock sales during fiscal 2026. It expects to raise about $40 billion through debt and equity in the current fiscal year. These funds support its cloud infrastructure expansion and related equipment purchases. Oracle expects capital expenditures of about $70 billion in fiscal 2027, according to its current plans. Demand will guide the spending level.

At the same time, Oracle’s business recorded faster growth. Total revenue rose 17% to $67.4 billion in fiscal 2026. Cloud infrastructure revenue increased 77% to $18.1 billion, while total cloud revenue reached $34 billion.

Oracle also ended the year with $638 billion in remaining performance obligations. Many large AI contracts included prepaid equipment or hardware supplied by customers. Oracle valued those prepaid and customer-provided hardware commitments at $75 billion.

The reported layoffs show how Oracle is reviewing recurring expenses during this investment cycle. Still, the company has not directly linked every planned position cut to automation. Oracle has also not confirmed the reported August workforce action or provided a specific employee total.
