The OnePlus 16 could bring a major display upgrade when the flagship arrives later in 2026. OnePlus reportedly worked with BOE on a custom X4 light-emitting material for the new screen. The upgrade could improve efficiency and durability while giving the phone slimmer bezels.
Tipster Digital Chat Station shared the details on Weibo, pointing to a custom BOE X4 panel for the OnePlus 16. Internal testing reportedly shows the new display outperforming Samsung's M series material in almost all aspects. The phone could launch in China around October with an 185Hz display.
Digital Chat Station claims the new display performs better than Samsung's M series ‘in almost all aspects.’ It also suggests that the X4 material uses less power than the X3 material.
The new technology could also offer nearly twice the lifespan of the previous generation. Such gains could help control battery use during gaming and high refresh rate tasks.
The OnePlus 16 display could also feature ultra-narrow bezels across all four sides. Reports point toward a flat LTPO panel with LIPO technology for a cleaner front design. The screen may measure around 6.78 inches and offer a 1.5K resolution.
A higher refresh rate could further separate the OnePlus 16 from many flagship rivals. Current leaks point toward 185Hz, although other reports suggest different refresh rate modes. The display could therefore target smoother gaming and faster animations.
The OnePlus 16 may also feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset. A reported CNY 4,999 starting price could apply to an 8GB RAM and 256GB model. OnePlus has not officially confirmed these specifications yet.
The OnePlus 15 arrived in China last October with a 6.78-inch QHD+ AMOLED screen. The upcoming model could shift the focus toward efficiency, durability and a more immersive display design.
