Nintendo Switch 2 launch date has officially been confirmed for June 5, 2025. Preorders will be available starting April 9 in North America and April 8 in Europe. The company announced the Nintendo Direct event while releasing major hardware and software upgrades compared to the first Switch.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will boast a 7.9-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution, HDR, and a 120Hz refresh rate. It still shares the same 13.99mm thickness as the original.
The Joy-Con controllers are redesigned to be broader and now feature a new ‘C’ button on the right-hand controller. Nintendo has revealed that this button supports GameChat, a new functionality allowing players to video chat during gaming. To make this a reality, Nintendo is launching the Switch 2 Camera, a peripheral to sit next to the TV. It will support live face overlays or independent video conversations using GameChat.
The GameShare feature will enable a single owner of a game to share a game locally on up to three other consoles, both Switch 2 and the original. This technology provides more ease in playing multiplayer games locally. So, it no longer needs every player to have a copy of the game.
The Nintendo Switch 2 price will begin at US$449.99 (around ₹38,500), with a Mario Kart World bundle for US$499.99. In the UK, the console costs £395.99, and in Germany, it will cost €469.99.
Nintendo has announced an amazing game lineup for the Switch 2. Mario Kart World will be a day-one exclusive, with an open-world mode and dynamic race environments. GameCube titles such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Soul Calibur 2, and F-Zero GX will also be coming to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service with improved graphics.
Other releases later this year include Civilization VII, which will arrive with new mouse-like Joy-Con controls, as well as Deltarune with new chapters, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Cyberpunk 2077. The Hyrule Warriors series is also expanding with Age of Imprisonment, which will debut exclusively on the Switch 2.
With major hardware upgrades, exciting new features, and a robust lineup of games, Nintendo Switch 2 is set to become one of the biggest gaming releases of 2025. More information regarding battery life and performance tuning will be coming as the release date nears.
