Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will offer DMZ early access on October 20, 2026, ahead of its global launch on October 23. Activision and Infinity Ward confirmed the rollout for eligible digital pre-orders across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The schedule also includes early campaign access from October 16, giving buyers an earlier start before the full release.

The game will launch worldwide on October 23, with DMZ and its core multiplayer modes available to players. Activision aims to rebuild the extraction mode with persistent progression, open-world combat, and new opportunities for squad-based encounters.

However, the early-access bonuses apply to eligible digital editions, while physical editions do not include these pre-order benefits.

DMZ Returns with a Bigger Ambition

The new DMZ experience takes place in the Hajin Exclusion Zone, where players can loot, fight, negotiate, and extract. Players can deploy solo or in squads while maintaining progression across their operations. Infinity Ward presents the revamped mode as a more complete extraction shooter than its earlier version.

DMZ first appeared in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in 2022, introducing extraction-based gameplay to the franchise. The mode received updates before Activision ended support in late 2023. Its return in Modern Warfare 4 signals another attempt to establish a stronger place for extraction gameplay within Call of Duty.

Infinity Ward multiplayer creative director Joe Cecot acknowledged the lessons from the earlier version in a behind-the-scenes video. He described the original experience as an approachable sandbox for fighting, exploration, and player interaction. Cecot also said the team identified unfinished ideas and approached development with a clearer direction.

Vault Edition Offers Additional DMZ Benefits

Players purchasing the Vault Edition will receive a DMZ Deployment Bonus alongside the early-access opportunity. The package includes an additional Active Duty slot and equipment such as Weapon Insurance Contracts, Operator Rescue Beacons, backpacks, and armor carriers.

The early-access window focuses on the campaign and DMZ, rather than the franchise's core multiplayer modes. Those multiplayer offerings will arrive with the full October 23 launch. The staggered rollout gives eligible buyers several days to experience the campaign and extraction mode before the wider player base joins.
