Meta has launched a new AI-powered fashion app, Style Sketch. The tech giant launched it without any prior promotion, which left users surprised. Reportedly, the app will connect to Instagram to build a virtual closet from photos that users posted. They can even manually crop and edit photos before adding them to the closet. Once the images are uploaded, Style Sketch will suggest outfits based on user preferences. It can also show how these looks may appear on a model that matches the user's body shape and skin tone.

Social media consultant Matt Navarra first spotted the app. The official description of the app says, “realistic model matched to your body shape and skin tone.” Currently, it is available in Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand on iOS and Android. There’s no news of Meta planning to expand the app’s access to other countries.

Many people have a full wardrobe but still struggle to decide what to wear. Style Sketch aims to solve this problem by giving users fresh ideas from clothes they already own. It may also help them avoid buying new outfits just to try a different look.

Instagram Photos Raise New Privacy Concerns

Style Sketch will use Instagram photos, and that’s what raises concern. Users have been asking: how much control do they have over their pictures? The fact is, people may post photos for their friends and families, and not every photo is one they would like to see in the digital wardrobe.  Meta has not clearly explained how the app gets permission to use these images or whether users can choose which photos it can access.

There are also questions about where the images are stored and how long Meta keeps them. The company has not confirmed whether photos added to Style Sketch are used to train its AI models. Until these details are clear, users should check the app's permissions and privacy terms before sharing personal pictures.
