Meta is witnessing another major departure, this time from its policy team. Christelle Dernon, Senior Policy Manager at Meta, announced her resignation after four years with the company. In a heartfelt LinkedIn note, she described Meta as her ‘dream employer,’ recalling her early admiration during milestones such as the Obama campaign, the Arab Spring, and Facebook’s Safety Check feature.
During her tenure, Dernon played a key role in shaping Meta’s policy direction. She worked on content moderation strategies, compliance with new digital regulations, and engaged with policymakers in India and Europe. She led campaigns on the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), Digital Markets Act (DMA), and international data flows. She also spearheaded AI-related policy initiatives, including coordinating an open letter on AI regulation signed by over 40 CEOs.
In her farewell note, Dernon reflected on her professional journey, highlighting the challenges and achievements that defined her career at Meta. She expressed deep gratitude to colleagues across Europe, global partners, and leadership teams who supported her. “I leave clearer, stronger, and with a renewed sense of the kind of leader I want to be,” she wrote.
While Dernon has not yet revealed her next professional step, she hinted at pursuing entrepreneurial ventures and exploring new opportunities. Her departure follows a string of recent Meta AI exits. While most people have been affected by mass tech layoffs, Dernon’s decision signifies the luxury higher-ups enjoy as she departs from a good-paying job on her own terms.
