Electronic Arts (EA) is facing growing backlash from Mass Effect fans after graffiti demanding the survival of the popular gaming franchise appeared outside its Madrid office in Spain. The message, reading "SAVE MASS EFFECT," was spray-painted near the building's entrance and on an exterior wall.
Images of the graffiti were shared on Reddit by a user who said they came across the messages while passing the office. The incident marks a more confrontational turn in the fan campaign following EA's decision to shut down BioWare, the studio responsible for the Mass Effect series.
The graffiti follows several attempts by fans to convince EA to reconsider its decision. Supporters recently funded a 15-second advertisement in New York's Times Square to draw attention to the campaign.
A Change.org petition calling for the continuation of Mass Effect has also attracted more than 250,000 signatures. Fans are urging EA to continue developing the franchise, even without BioWare's involvement.
However, the graffiti has divided the gaming community. While some understand the frustration behind the protest, others question whether vandalizing company property will help the campaign.
EA's decision to close BioWare has effectively ended the studio behind several popular role-playing games, including Mass Effect and Dragon Age. The move also resulted in the cancellation of its upcoming Mass Effect project.
The closure came amid wider restructuring at EA, which reportedly included plans to cut around 400 jobs. The publisher has been shifting its focus towards projects it considers stronger commercial opportunities.

The future of Mass Effect remains uncertain, despite the growing public campaign. EA has not indicated that it plans to reverse the studio closure or revive the cancelled project. The incident highlights the strong connection between the franchise and its fan community. However, whether petitions, advertisements and public protests can influence EA's future plans remains unclear.
