Kraken has restored trading services after a one-hour outage prevented some customers from accessing spot and derivatives markets on October 30.
The cryptocurrency exchange reported connection problems and failed order submissions beginning at 02:42 UTC. According to its official status page, Kraken resolved the incident at 03:42 UTC, although it has not disclosed the cause or number of affected customers.
Kraken confirmed that the disruption affected customers using its website, mobile applications and automated trading connections. Both spot and derivatives traders encountered difficulties accessing the platform or submitting orders.
The exchange also identified problems with REST, WebSocket, and FIX connections. These services allow traders and automated systems to place orders without using the standard trading website. Derivatives cross-exchange transfers were also among the affected services.
At 02:55 UTC, Kraken said its engineers were still investigating the problem. The crypto exchange provided no technical explanation before confirming that the incident had ended at 03:42 UTC.
Kraken has not disclosed how many orders failed during the outage or whether any customers suffered trading losses.
Several customers complained on X as the disruption continued. One user reported receiving repeated error messages while attempting to buy cryptocurrency during a market decline.
Kraken Support acknowledged the problem and directed the customer to its incident page. Another user questioned why withdrawals were unavailable, while a trader reported difficulties placing orders and accessing funds.
The trader also claimed the exchange had entered post-only mode, which restricts orders that would execute immediately. The same user later confirmed that access had returned.
However, Kraken has not confirmed whether it applied post-only restrictions across its platform during the October 30 outage. The exchange has also provided no separate explanation for the reported withdrawal difficulties.
The interruption came as cryptocurrency markets faced selling pressure following the Binance security breach. Kraken has not linked its trading problems to the incident at the rival exchange.
The October 30 outage followed scheduled maintenance on Kraken's trading systems the previous day. The exchange temporarily restricted spot trading during an upgrade that began at 08:01 UTC and ended at 08:17 UTC.
During the maintenance, Kraken placed markets in cancel-only and post-only modes while engineers checked the systems. Its derivatives platform also underwent maintenance, while a separate FIX connection problem had been resolved that morning.
Kraken's latest incident report did not connect the outage to those earlier activities.
Meanwhile, unverified claims circulated online about Kraken holding more than USD 130 million in exposure to decentralized lending platform Aave. No confirmed evidence has established that the alleged exposure caused the trading disruption or created liquidity problems.
In a separate report, Circle said customers had deposited more than USD 350 million in USDC into Kraken's DeFi Earn vaults since launch. The service uses third-party lending protocols, including Aave, but those deposits do not represent Kraken's direct losses or financial exposure.
Kraken marked the trading incident resolved at 03:42 UTC. The exchange has yet to publish a detailed explanation of the outage or disclose the total number of affected transactions.
