Konami is shutting down Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls on September 3, 2026. This is a mobile action-adventure platformer originally released in Canada for iOS and Android in September 2019. First, the game was removed from Apple Arcade, and after the final shutdown, players will no longer be able to play it. Konami thanked players for their support but did not give a clear reason for ending the service.
The game puts players in the role of Genya Arikado, an Alucard alter ego, who got into a mysterious journey after receiving warnings of the game’s dangers. The most interesting part involves the wide range of Castlevania characters, including Simon Belmont, Richter Belmont, and Trevor Belmont. The gameplay includes a side-scrolling action-gameplay style with RPG elements.
The shutdown also raises a preservation problem. Once the servers go offline, the game will become inaccessible. Konami has not announced an offline version or a release on other platforms.
The timing is interesting, as Grimoire of Souls is leaving just weeks before Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse’s release. The new game is scheduled to launch on October 15 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC. It will return to the series’ classic 2D action style, giving fans a new way to experience Castlevania.
Belmont’s Curse now has a chance to carry the series forward. Coming so soon after Grimoire of Souls closes, the new game could quickly become the focus for Castlevania fans.
For now, Grimoire of Souls is heading into the darkness. Fans have until September 3 to say goodbye, while Belmont’s Curse prepares to bring the series back in October.
