The beginning of a new calendar month has several government regulations coming into effect. The revised rules applicable from July 1 cover passport application charges, Aadhaar services, and income tax compliance.

Being aware of these changes can help individuals avoid last-minute hassle, whether they are planning international travel, managing their digital identity, or preparing their annual tax filings.

New Government Rules: Effective From July 1

Here's a look at the key changes that have taken effect.

Passport Application Fees Revised

The government has made an official amendment to the service fees for the passport application procedure. This revised price is applicable to both the Normal and the Tatkaal category of service for new and renewed passports.

Now, a regular 36-page passport will cost Rs. 2,500 (previously Rs. 1,500), whereas a Tatkaal service for the same will cost Rs. 5,000 (previously Rs. 3,500).

The amendment also includes the prices for 60-page booklets and replacements of lost/damaged passports. The normal 60-page passport will cost Rs. 3,500 (previously Rs. 2,000), whereas the Tatkaal fee for the same has been raised to Rs. 6,000 from the previous Rs. 4,000.

mAadhaar App Discontinued

mAadhaar application for smartphones has been discontinued from 30 June. According to the government, this app is replaced by the latest version of the Aadhaar app that provides enhanced security. The app was launched earlier this year and is downloadable from both the Play Store and the App Store.

New Aadhaar App Offers Additional Features

The new Aadhaar app also comes with enhanced features, including facial authentication, simpler biometric locking, and a more efficient interface for accessing services.

Free Aadhaar Email Update for Six Months

Users can update their email address on the new Aadhaar app for free. The government has introduced a limited-time window of July 1 to December 1, 2026, that allows citizens to update their email address in their Aadhaar data without paying any fee.

Normally, updating Aadhaar details attracts a Rs 75 charge. However, the government has waived this fee completely for the next six months.

ITR Filing Deadline on July 31

Taxpayers who have not yet filed their income tax returns must complete the process before the deadline. For the financial year 2025–26, eligible individuals filing ITR-1 and ITR-2 can submit their returns until July 31, 2026. Filing returns within the prescribed timeline is essential to ensure compliance with income tax regulations and avoid potential penalties.
