OnePlus, once celebrated for disrupting the premium smartphone market with its flagship-killer devices, could be preparing for one of the biggest strategic shifts in its history. As per several sources, the firm might be shutting down its operations in the US and Europe in a matter of days, whereas India could witness a phased exit by 2027 as part of a global restructuring plan from its parent firm, Oppo.

This would signal the closing chapter for a firm which had made a name for itself worldwide via cheap flagship smartphones under the motto of ‘Never Settle’.

Oppo’s Restructuring is Reportedly Driving Move

This exit strategy is purportedly connected to the overall restructuring process taking place at Oppo. This company is thought to be streamlining its international business operations amid the increasing level of geopolitical uncertainty, the decline in demand for smartphones in some regions, and the toughening competition from other brands in the Android ecosystem.

Though OnePlus has not made any official statement on this issue, it was reported that soon this company may make announcements about its plans related to the markets of the US and Europe. At the same time, India, which is among the key markets of OnePlus, will presumably continue operating for the time being.

India is Still an Important Market

India became the country where OnePlus succeeded the most as a company selling premium and mid-range Nord smartphones. The company sells its products via official online channels, which means that the operations there are still going on.

Industry experts think that if OnePlus decides to exit the Indian market, the competition in the premium Android smartphone segment in India will change significantly.

No Official Confirmation Yet

At present, the reported exit remains unconfirmed by OnePlus or Oppo. Existing customers are also awaiting clarity on future software updates, after-sales support, and warranty services should the restructuring proceed.

Until an official announcement is made, the reports should be viewed as part of an evolving story. However, if the plans move ahead, they would represent one of the most significant changes in OnePlus’s 13-year journey from startup disruptor to globally recognised smartphone brand.
