Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro could be pricier than last year’s model if a new leak is accurate. According to a report published on India Today, Tipster Instant Digital claims the Pro variant will see a $50 jump, pushing its starting price in the US to $1,049.

While that’s not a monumental increase, the iPhone Pro range already occupies the premium tier, so any hike will be felt by buyers. This new price bump has a silver lining: Apple will likely double the base storage to 256GB from 128GB, providing extra space for photos, videos, and apps.

Is the iPhone 17 Pro Price Increase Exclusive?

The leak suggests that the entire iPhone 17 series, the base model, the new iPhone 17 Air (speculated to replace the Plus), and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, might all experience similar price rises in the US.

iPhone 17 Air is expected to begin at $949, around Rs 94,900 in India, or around Rs 5,000 higher than the iPhone 16 Plus. The iPhone 17 Pro may be priced at around Rs 1,21,900 here, while the Pro Max would cost Rs 1,39,900.

These projections align with Apple’s traditional India price trends, although the rates are not official until the September launch.

What’s New with the iPhone 17 Air?

iPhone 17 Air is looking to be Apple’s thinnest phone to date, with the inspiration drawn from the in-hand experience of iPhone 6. Leaks point to the thin shape coming at the expense of a few things, though, compared to the Pro models.

Tipster Fixed Focus Digital reports that iPhone 17 features include an A19-series chip with a single GPU core. This won’t be an issue for everyday users but will create a discernible graphics performance gap for gamers and heavy multitaskers.

Will Display See Downgrades Too?

The iPhone 17 Air is speculated to introduce a 120Hz refresh rate to a non-Pro iPhone eventually. The device could feature LTPO variable refresh rate tech on the Pro models. That would mean no always-on display and possibly less battery efficiency, which is a worry since the model reportedly features a more compact battery than the Plus.

A Single-Lens Camera in 2025?

In a rare departure for a high-end Apple phone, iPhone 17 Air purportedly comes with one rear camera. While computational photography may assist with digital zoom, the lack of ultrawide or telephoto lenses will constrain versatility for pro photographers.

When Will We Know for Sure?

Apple will officially release the flagship product, comprising iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, at its September 9 event. Pre-orders will probably follow soon after. For now, the leaks should be taken with a grain of salt.
