With Grand Theft Auto 6 expected to require a massive 212GB download, players are bracing for long waits before they can enter Vice City. However, eligible internet subscribers in the US could get a temporary speed upgrade at no additional cost, helping them download Rockstar Games’ upcoming title faster.
Internet service provider Spectrum has announced a promotional offer called the "Gig Speed Lift," which will increase download speeds for qualifying customers between November 9 and November 30. The offer aims to help players download GTA 6 ahead of its November 19 release.
Under the promotion, eligible Spectrum customers will receive internet speeds of up to 1Gbps during the offer period. Customers who already subscribe to a 1Gbps plan in select markets will receive an upgrade to 2Gbps.
The company said the offer comes with no additional cost or long-term commitment. Customers with qualifying internet plans and compatible equipment can activate the temporary upgrade through the My Spectrum app.
The speed boost will begin on November 9 and remain available until November 30. Once the promotional period ends, customers’ internet speeds will automatically return to their original plan levels. No further action will be required to reverse the upgrade.
Spectrum claims its Gig Speed Lift could let customers download GTA 6 in under 30 minutes. However, actual download times may vary depending on internet speeds, network conditions, and other technical factors.
Rockstar Games has confirmed that the game’s pre-load file will require up to 212GB of storage, depending on the device. Digital pre-loading begins on November 10, giving players time to download the game before its official release.
The large file size makes the temporary internet upgrade especially relevant for players who want to avoid lengthy downloads on launch day.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The temporary Spectrum offer is available to eligible customers in the United States and does not provide early access to the game.
The promotion also covers Thanksgiving and the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping period. While the upgrade is temporary, Spectrum is positioning the offer as an opportunity for customers to experience faster internet speeds before deciding whether to upgrade their plans permanently.
