Google has given The Legend of Zelda fans a fun reason to visit its search page. Nintendo is all set to bring its 1998 classic to modern gamers on November 5, 2026. Ocarina of Time is the first game of the franchise that veteran players still love to revisit.
Ahead of Ocarina of Time remake’s release, Nintendo gamers have discovered that Google has prepared an Easter egg for them. Searching ‘Zelda’ or ‘Ocarina of Time’ on Google brings the usual search results, but at the bottom there’s a Master Sword icon.
If players tap or click on the icon, an animation starts that takes them back to the classic search result page of Google, like how it looked in 1998. Generally, the search results contain 10 website links on each page; this page also has ten links, but it is a customized search page created for Zelda fans.
However, the throwback has its limits. Users can only view one page of Zelda-related search results. They cannot keep browsing in the old design, and a fresh search takes them back to the modern Google page. If you are curious why Google did it, well, 1998 is not the year when The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released, but in the same year, Google Inc. was officially founded.

Classic games continue to find new fans even decades after their release. Older players enjoy the memories they bring back, while younger gamers get a chance to discover titles that shaped the industry. Familiar faces, music, and small visual details also make these games easy to recognize and share online.
Google's Easter egg is a simple reminder that great games do not fade away easily. A familiar character and a little nostalgia can bring old memories back while building fresh interest in a classic title.
