Google has quietly updated the Google Earth app icon, giving the mapping platform a fresh look that matches the company's growing use of gradient-based designs across its products. The redesigned logo features softer colors and a more prominent blue gradient while retaining the familiar globe-inspired appearance. The change is part of Google's wider visual refresh, which has gradually introduced updated icons across several services.
The redesigned Google Earth icon keeps its circular shape and recognizable globe details but makes some visual adjustments. The earlier design featured more distinct curved lines representing the planet. The new version simplifies these elements and uses a smoother transition between lavender, light blue, and brighter blue shades.
The updated icon has so far appeared on the Google Play Store listing and the Google Earth Engine website. However, the older logo remains visible on the main Google Earth website and within the installed mobile app. This suggests Google is introducing the change gradually rather than updating every platform at once.

Google has been refreshing the visual identity of several products with softer colors and gradient effects. Recent updates have affected its Workspace applications and other services, including Google Search-related products.
The Earth redesign follows the same direction, giving the mapping service a more consistent appearance within Google's wider product ecosystem. The icon update also follows other improvements Google has made to Earth. These include AI-powered data layers and the wider availability of its built-in flight simulator.
While the logo change does not introduce new functionality, it gives the familiar mapping platform a more contemporary appearance. Google has not announced when the redesigned icon will reach all devices and platforms.
