Google has expanded Ask Maps in India with Hindi support, live transit updates, and Personal Intelligence. The company announced the updates on August 6, 2026, through its India blog. The new tools aim to make Google Maps more useful for daily travel, local discovery, and trip planning. Gemini powers Ask Maps, helping people handle detailed questions through natural language.
The India rollout adds Hindi support, real-time bus, metro, and train updates, plus optional Gmail connections for personalized suggestions. Google said, “Ask Maps is Google Maps’ biggest transformation in over a decade.” The feature can also remember earlier conversations when history settings remain enabled, allowing travel plans to continue without restarting.
Hindi support can help users search for places, compare routes, and request local recommendations in a more familiar language. Ask Maps also provides live transit schedules and delay information through a new widget. For example, searches around ISBT Kashmere Gate can show departures, connecting routes, and changing wait times.
Personal Intelligence adds another layer to trip planning through Gmail. With permission, Ask Maps can use flight, hotel, or restaurant reservations to suggest nearby activities and suitable departure times. Google keeps Gmail access off by default, giving account holders control over the connection.
The feature also brings live information beyond transport, including traffic, weather, and crowd levels at restaurants or shops. These details can help commuters choose better travel times and avoid crowded locations.
