Google announced Gemini 3.8 Live with a new Live Avatar feature, which gives users a better visual and interactive experience for AI conversations. Precisely, it gives Gemini a digital face that can see, listen, and speak during conversations. The avatar can respond in real time, use facial expressions, and match its lip movements to sync with the spoken words. Google is bringing the feature to businesses through Gemini Enterprise and can be used for customer support, virtual assistance, and interactive product or service walkthroughs.
The official launch blog post mentioned, “Building on the momentum of last week’s Gemini 3.8 Live launch, today we are excited to introduce Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar – bringing near real-time visual presence to our native live dialogue models.”
Live Avatar can take in voice and visual information at the same time. It can also use tools in the background while talking to a user at the same time. Google says it supports 97 languages and can switch between languages during a conversation. Businesses can choose from ready-made avatars or create their own. Custom avatar creation is currently available only to approved organizations. Google also adds its SynthID watermark to AI-generated content.

The avatar itself may not be the biggest change. A face can make an AI conversation feel more natural, but it does not make the answers better.
The more useful part is Gemini’s ability to see, listen, and use tools while the conversation continues. If those features help solve real problems, the avatar has a clear purpose. If not, it could simply become a nicer way to present the same AI assistant.
Gemini 3.8 Live shows Google wants AI to feel less like a text box and more like a person users can talk to. Its success will depend on whether the new format makes everyday tasks easier.
