Tether Helped Freeze USD 550 Million in Iran-Linked USDT

Stablecoin issuer Tether said on September 28 that its 2026 cooperation with US law enforcement helped freeze approximately USD 550 million in USDT held in Iran-linked wallets.

The company said the freezes targeted addresses that US authorities had connected to the Central Bank of Iran and its sanctions networks.

Tether said it supported the US government in freezing more than USD 344 million in USDT across two addresses in April, acting on information from the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control and US  law enforcement.

The following day, OFAC added those same addresses as digital currency identifiers for the Central Bank of Iran, whose sanctions entry is linked to the IRGC-Qods Force and Hezbollah.

Hedera Hit 8-month High

Hedera’s HBAR rallied by roughly 25% in a day and surged to its highest level since early January.

HBAR jumped to around USD 0.13 (per CoinMarketCap) before retracing to the current USD 0.12. This still represents a 60% increase over two weeks.

The asset’s market capitalization has risen well above the USD 5 billion mark, making it the 26th-largest cryptocurrency and surpassing popular altcoins like Avalanche (AVAX) and Sui (SUI).

A Key catalyst for the uptrend is the partnership between IBM and the Hashgraph Group. The entities aim to bring Hedera-based IDTrust to IBM Cloud, giving enterprises verifiable digital identity for AI agents.

Verona Launches verUSD Stablecoin

The Verona network, formerly known as XION, rolled out verUSD, a new dollar-pegged stablecoin specifically engineered to settle transactions and purchase verified data between artificial intelligence agents.

Unveiled during Korea Blockchain Week in Seoul, the digital currency makes its debut backed by over USD 100 million in institutional commitments, integrating more than USD 60 million in contracted revenue volume and capital contributed by firms including Animoca Ventures, Figment Capital, and Sfermion.

Issued through Brale and backed 1:1 by US bank reserves, verUSD launches initially across Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche, Optimism, Arbitrum, Celo, and Solana.

The move targets the emerging agentic economy niche against offerings from competitors and traditional industry giants, prioritizing direct transactional throughput over speculative holding to power frictionless machine-to-machine operations.

Bitmine Crossed 6 Million ETH

Ethereum treasury company BitMine Immersion Technologies said its ether holdings have crossed six million tokens, reaching 6,001,302 ETH, or 4.9% of the network’s 122.1 million-token supply, in a weekly update published September 28.

The NYSE-listed firm said its crypto, cash, marketable securities and equity stakes were together worth USD 17.2 billion as of September 27.

The company framed the crossing as progress toward its “Alchemy of 5%” objective of holding 5% of all ether in circulation, putting it roughly 98% of the way to that target.

The position was valued at USD 2,698 per token using Coinbase prices, up from about 5.98 million ETH a week earlier. BitMine reported 5,067,309 staked ETH worth USD 13.7 billion at the same USD 2,698 price, equal to 84% of its total holdings.
