Crimson Desert’s first major expansion has been delayed. Pearl Abyss initially announced the Charting the Unknown expansion during the September PlayStation State of Play presentation and the launch date was set on October 15. However, through an X post (formerly Twitter), the developer team declared the two weeks delay of the DLC, which is now scheduled for October 29.
In the official post, the developer team has apologized for the delay and mentioned that this time is required for polishing the game for the best experience possible. The post stated, “We know many of you have been looking forward to returning to the game and we sincerely apologize for the longer wait. We will use the additional time to further refine the content and do our utmost to deliver the best experience we can.”
The delay comes after a strong start for Crimson Desert. Released on March 19, 2026, the game has crossed four million milestone that several games only dream of. Reportedly, Charting the Unknown will take players to parts of Pywel that they have not seen before. The DLC adds new islands, underwater areas and ruins hidden below the water. It also brings sailing, giving players a new way to travel around the world. The extra time could help Pearl Abyss make these new features smoother before the expansion arrives.
Initially, when the DLC was set for October 15, it was releasing with two highly anticipated games like Valor Mortis and Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, which made the competition tough for the Crimson Desert DLC. Now, after the reschedule, Charting the Unknown will release on the same day as Phantom Blade Zero, the second biggest release of 2026, after GTA 6.
The reason behind all the major titles coming toward the end of October is easy to understand. On November 19, 2026, Rockstar will launch the biggest title of the decade, GTA 6. The hype around the game is already breaking all the boundaries; thus, naturally, no developer is willing to compete with Rockstar’s upcoming GTA title.

Charting the Unknown will change how players travel through Pywel. Adding the sailing feature will let players leave the mainland and access new islands that were inaccessible before. Players can also dive underwater and explore ruins hidden beneath the surface.
This means Pywel will no longer be about roads, forests and mountains alone. The sea will become another part of the adventure. A normal trip could turn into a search for a hidden ruin or a new location.
The delay gives Pearl Abyss more time to work on these features. When the expansion arrives on October 29, players will have new areas to visit and a fresh way to explore the world of Crimson Desert.
