Anthropic is investigating a Claude Opus 5 outage after higher error rates disrupted Claude.ai, the Claude API, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork on July 27. The incident began at 08:16 UTC, or 1:46 PM IST, and users in India may experience failed requests, delayed responses, or interrupted sessions while affected services remain partially available.
The company classified the event as degraded performance instead of a complete outage, meaning some Claude requests are working while others fail. Anthropic confirmed the investigation on its status page, stating, "We are currently investigating this issue," while Claude Console and Claude for Government continue operating normally.
The disruption mainly affects products powered by Claude Opus 5, Anthropic's flagship model for coding, research, and professional workloads. Chat users may receive incomplete responses, developers can encounter server errors, and coding tasks inside Claude Code may stop unexpectedly during execution.
Anthropic has not identified a single error behind the incident, although its documentation lists timeout, overload, and internal server responses among possible service failures. Official software development kits automatically retry temporary errors, while request IDs help engineers trace failed API calls during support investigations.
The latest disruption follows another Claude Opus 5 incident resolved less than one day earlier. Anthropic has not confirmed whether both events share the same technical cause, although recent status history shows multiple reliability issues involving Claude services.
India remains one of Claude's largest markets, making the outage significant for developers, businesses, students, and researchers relying on the platform during working hours. Users handling urgent tasks can temporarily switch to another Claude model, save ongoing work locally, and retry requests after service conditions improve.
