Checkr, an AI-powered verification platform for high-stakes decisions, has launched a new insurance offering for US auto, life, and home insurance carriers. The platform is designed to give insurers faster access to verified applicant information during the quoting and underwriting process.
The move comes as consumers increasingly compare insurance policies online, pressuring insurers to evaluate more applicants and make pricing decisions faster.
According to J.D. Power’s 2026 Insurance Shopping Study, US consumers now obtain an average of 3.5 insurance quotes before purchasing coverage. This is the highest level the study has recorded.
Digital purchasing has also increased. Nearly 48% of new auto insurance policies are now purchased online, compared with 36% five years ago. The shift means insurers must process more prospective customers before knowing which applicants will eventually become policyholders.
Traditionally, insurers have had to choose between conducting detailed checks early in the process or relying on applicant-supplied information and verifying it later.

Checkr’s insurance platform provides underwriters with direct access to identity records, criminal information, public records, and driving data from more than 2,400 government sources.
The company said it refreshes its data daily and classifies it across more than 250 offense categories. The platform covers more than 260 million profiles, representing 96% of US adults, and includes up to 20% more driving, criminal, and public records than legacy verification providers.
Checkr said its technology also matches applicants with the correct records, helping reduce manual review and providing insurers with more structured information for underwriting decisions.
The commercial model differs from conventional per-transaction verification. Carriers pay when an applicant becomes a policyholder, not each time they request a check.
Hippo is among the insurers using additional Checkr data during underwriting. Hippo Chief Underwriting Officer Ilya Shnol said the additional data signals are provided earlier in the assessment process and support more consistent underwriting decisions.
Checkr has made the insurance offering available to carriers across the United States.
