Users have access to the whole process from product search to ordering and payment, all in one place. The AI interaction is now much more customer-friendly in terms of shopping.
However, there is a drawback to this feature. Even though UPI transactions represent the most secure and fastest payment method, it is still essential for users to know the limits set before they start using this option.
The integration of UPI payments into ChatGPT’s platform allows shoppers to make direct payments while chatting. The rapid and secure transactions have already made UPI a widely used payment system in India. Users browse and buy products ranging from daily necessities to electronic devices without closing the chat box.
A spokesperson from ChatGPT commented, "This integration is in line with our belief in facilitating digital interactions as a way to enhance user experience. Users can now shop without switching between different applications, which will result in the process being quicker and more user-friendly."
While this feature simplifies shopping, there’s an important factor to be aware of. Users can only access the UPI payments feature if they link their accounts to specific payment gateways, which ChatGPT supports. Furthermore, transactions made within the platform may demand a small service fee, which could make this option less appealing for frequent shoppers.
Experts point out that, although UPI integration is a step forward, some limitations remain. “While the feature offers convenience, the added fees and limited payment gateway options might result in less adoption,” noted one industry expert.
Using the UPI payment feature within ChatGPT is simple. A secure payment link will appear in the chat window, allowing instant payment using linked UPI apps, such as Google Pay or PhonePe. The system promises end-to-end encryption to protect users' financial data for a secure shopping experience.
The new UPI payment system for in-chat shopping is an impressive move towards a more convenient and user-friendly online shopping experience. However, the feature’s possible drawbacks, such as service fees and payment gateway restrictions, may not be for all users. This feature makes shopping faster compared to previous models, but the shortcomings should also be considered.
However, it remains to be seen whether the additional costs and limitations will influence how widely users accept it in regions with varying payment options.
