The Borderlands series has crossed 100 million sales worldwide. Gearbox Software, the developer team behind this franchise, has shared this news with a post on X (formerly Twitter). The first game of the series arrived 17 years ago in 2009, but the milestone was achieved within a year of the last entry in the franchise, Borderlands 4.

The studio thanked fans for supporting the series over the years. While Gearbox has not shared the sales figures for each game, the total shows how popular the franchise has become. The series combines wild characters, co-op action, and a huge range of weapons that have helped it stand out in the gaming world.

Gearbox also confirmed that Borderlands 4 will receive more content in 2027. This comes after its first year of planned updates, which brought two Story Packs, five Bounty Packs, and two new Vault Hunters. Players also received new activities, raids, and gameplay changes.

While planning the second year’s content, the studio has asked for player opinions: “As always, Weekly Activity refreshes, and Community Challenges will continue. But we're also taking a bigger look at the franchise as a whole. Where can we take it next? What characters do you want to spend more time with? What stories deserve a payoff? A huge part of that is listening to you.”

Borderlands 2 vs Borderlands 4: What has Changed?

Borderlands 2 is still one of the favorite games for many gamers. Released in 2012, the game has a catchy storyline, funny moments, and the villain Handsome Jack. These elements collaborated to make the game stand out from other entries of the series. Set on Pandora, the game offered colorful areas, co-op missions, and countless weapons to try.

Borderlands 4 takes players to a new planet called Kairos. It brings a larger world, fresh Vault Hunters and more ways to move around during fights. Players also get new skill options and faster combat. However, some players have raised concerns about its story and performance.

Both games offer different reasons to play, and the 100 million sales mark shows that players have played these games to the fullest. With more updates planned for 2027, the studio hopes to keep old fans engaged and bring new players into the series.
