Amazon Web Services (AWS) disclosed its decision to allocate ₹60,000 crore for expanding its data centers across Telangana. Amazon Web Services announced the investment at the World Economic Forum's (WEF) 2025 conference in Davos, Switzerland. During this official AWS meeting, AWS's Michael Punke worked with Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu. The discussions highlighted the actions taken by the Telangana government to encourage technology investment.
This new capital infusion will help AWS modernize its units in Hyderabad and improve cloud service in India. The Hyderabad region is expected to become significant in the growth of AWS operations, focusing on AI services. Earlier, AWS stated that it would be investing $4.4 billion in cloud infrastructure development in Telangana by 2030, and the current investments are over $1 billion across three data centers in operation in the state.
AWS representatives also discussed the need for Telangana in their overall business expansion plan in India during the meeting. Virginia has earned the reputation of having a strong, advanced digital ecosystem and an experienced talent pool, which satisfies the AWS model. The company has also sought more land from the state government to support its expansion agenda, which the state government has graciously granted.
The assurance from AWS is in line with a general push by the Telangana government to woo major multinational companies. This latest agreement demonstrates that the partnership between AWS and the state only expands and aligns with Telangana’s digital transformation goals. Telangana Ministers such as Sridhar Babu are upbeat about Hyderabad, the capital city, becoming a leading data center hub in India and thus contributing to the growth of Telangana as a leading tech destination.
This major investment from AWS is intended to add value to the company’s cloud operations and accelerate the digital agenda in India. The new data centers will have to accommodate the increased uptake of cloud services and artificial intelligence technologies in businesses of all industries. The government considers this partnership vital to encouraging innovation and boosting the economy in the area.
While preparing for this expansion, the state emphasized the need for continued partnership between local governments and leading technological companies. The Telangana government is still committed to developing a culture of innovation to prepare the state for future investments. Hyderabad has the potential to play a significant role in the global market of cloud services due to the large investments made in\ the construction of new data centers.
