Apple’s first foldable iPhone could cost above USD 2,000, with some estimates placing its average selling price above USD 2,550, or Rs. 2.25 lakh. Higher-storage versions could exceed USD 3,000, making it the most expensive iPhone yet.

The rumored iPhone Ultra is set to be unveiled at Apple’s September 9 event. This would mark the company’s entry into the foldable smartphone market.

Apple is Focusing on Premium Buyers

IDC estimates an average selling price above USD 2,550 for the flagship, with other variants reaching or exceeding USD 3,000. TrendForce offered a lower estimate of USD 2,099 to USD 2,299, equivalent to approximately Rs. 1.85 lakh to Rs. 2.03 lakh.

Citi expects the starting price to go beyond USD 2,000. These estimates would put Apple’s flagship above Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 priced at USD 1,899.

Memory costs are also adding pressure across the smartphone industry over the past year. Counterpoint estimates that 16GB of smartphone DRAM rose from about USD 42 in the second quarter of 2025 to around USD 181 a year later.

TrendForce expects the iPhone 18 Pro to cost USD 1,319. This would be higher than the USD 1,099, which was the starting price of the iPhone 17 Pro.

The expected iPhone Ultra could feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover screen. Reports also point to 12GB of RAM and a 5,500mAh battery.

Apple is expected to focus heavily on the hinge and display crease. The company has reportedly conducted additional manufacturing trials to improve both areas.

Supply could also limit the initial rollout. Production is currently estimated at only a few hundred units a day as Apple fine-tunes the manufacturing process.

Apple’s September lineup is expected to include the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the foldable model. The standard iPhone 18 and refreshed iPhone Air are expected later.

The company is scheduled to hold its event at the Steve Jobs Theater on September 9. Apple’s first foldable will therefore face a key test of whether consumers are willing to pay a premium for the new iPhone.
