Apple has started rolling out iOS 26 globally, including India and the US. iOS 26 was announced at WWDC 2022 and unveiled a few days later on September 12, at the Awe-dropping event. However, the updated OS features a sweeping new visual interface, along with a Liquid Design and multiple intelligent features designed to enhance communication, productivity, and control.
According to recent reports, Apple users can download the update from the Settings app on their iPhones. Navigate to General, and there they will find the Software Update option. It’s better to back up data and ensure the battery is fully charged before updating to the latest OS.
The launch of iOS 26 marks a significant milestone in Apple’s software ecosystem, particularly with the introduction of the Liquid Glass design system. This headline change has brought a more transparent, fluid, and layered interface that provides a sense of depth and 'real glass.' iOS 26 uses real-time rendering and reacts to movement with specular highlights to create a 'lively experience.'
Aside from the aesthetics, Apple Intelligence also became smarter with iOS 26 update, including Live Translation in Messages, FaceTime, and the Phone app. Phone app upgrade deserves a mention. It can now screen calls from unknown numbers, showing the purpose and name of the caller, allowing the user to decide whether to accept or decline the call.
At the time of the iPhone 17 series launch, Apple confirmed that iOS 26 won’t be confined to only the latest models, but will be spread across a range of iPhones, including the previous models up to the iPhone 11 series. All the variants of these series will be eligible to take the software update.
As for the timing, Apple hasn’t yet announced a specific time to roll out iOS 26, but a previous trend suggests that the company generally follows a typical time of around 10 a.m. Pacific Time, or around 10:30 p.m. IST. The rollout will be live with all other Apple products, including iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches.
