Apple could be preparing one of the biggest hardware upgrades in iPhone history to mark the smartphone’s 20th anniversary in 2027. Fresh leaks suggest the company is testing a nearly 7-inch display, potentially making it the largest screen ever fitted to an iPhone. While Apple has not confirmed the plans, the latest reports point to a major design overhaul for the anniversary model.
According to tipster Digital Chat Station, Apple is internally testing a 6.96-inch display for its 20th anniversary iPhone. The panel is said to retain a similar aspect ratio to the current Pro Max models while offering a noticeably larger viewing area.
If it goes into production, this model can be considered a 7-inch iPhone, as it will have the largest screen size available on any iPhone lineup. Yet the specs may change depending on Apple’s testing of several hardware builds.
The new display is only one aspect of what is expected to be a major design overhaul of the upcoming anniversary edition model. According to rumors, Apple is experimenting with a close-to-bezel-less quad-curved glass display that will provide a fully immersive experience and a thin form factor.
It will also come with an edge-to-edge display with no visible borders, one of the most prominent aesthetic updates since the iPhone X’s release.
Outside the display, the anniversary iPhone will also get multiple premium hardware improvements. Those include under-display Face ID, an under-screen front-facing camera, the upcoming 2nm A21 chipset from Apple, solid-state haptic buttons, upgraded Ceramic Shield, and an even larger battery capacity that can reach 6,000mAh.
There were also rumors that Apple wants to simplify its premium line and introduce two new flagship versions to replace the Pro and Pro Max. The company has confirmed none of those speculations.

As per reports, the anniversary iPhone will come out in 2027, marking 20 years since the first iPhone shook up the smartphone market. Given that the development process is still underway, Apple might change or scrap some of the features mentioned above before the phone reaches mass production.
Currently, the mentioned 7-inch display seems to be the strongest evidence of Apple preparing a groundbreaking release for the anniversary of its flagship smartphone.
