Apple reportedly updated its Mac charging range with a redesigned plug system. The company now sells refreshed versions of its 70W Power Adapter, 140W Power Adapter, and Power Adapter Extension Cable, all built around a new connector called AC Connector 2.
The change is minor in appearance but important for compatibility. Apple moved away from its older notched ‘AC Connector 1’ design and adopted a pill-shaped plug. The new design helps the accessories meet updated regulatory requirements.
Alongside the chargers, Apple also relaunched its World Travel Adapter Kit in the United States at USD 39. The kit includes five interchangeable plug heads that attach to the removable wall plug on compatible Apple power adapters.
The kit supports Type A plugs for North America and Japan, Type C for much of Europe and Brazil, Type D for India, Type G for the UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Singapore, and Type I for Australia and New Zealand.
Apple said the kit works with any Apple USB, USB-C, or MagSafe power adapter that has a removable AC wall plug. The update addresses a practical problem for travelers and MacBook users. Older extension cables and travel-adapter kits may not fit the new AC Connector 2 chargers since the plug shape has changed.
Customers who buy the refreshed 70W or 140W adapter should check that their extension cable or travel kit is compatible. Mixing older accessories with the new chargers may not work.
The refreshed adapters retain the same power ratings, so Apple did not announce changes to charging speed or output. The main difference lies in the removable plug and its improved regulatory design.
For frequent travellers, the return of the World Travel Adapter Kit offers a simple way to use one charger across multiple regions. For existing Mac users, the update is a reminder to check plug compatibility before buying replacement cables or adapters.
