Apple released the first public beta of iOS 26.2, offering new features for iPhone users and tech enthusiasts to experiment with. The update builds on the broader iOS 26 design and brings changes to Sleep Score, the lock screen interface, core apps, and more. This version focuses on better design, smarter apps, & more control for users before the final update launches in December.

Refined Health and Lock Screen Updates

The recent upgrades have changed the scoring range for Sleep Score tracking in the Health app. The category previously labelled 'Excellent' is renamed as 'Very High'. Users now need a score between 96 and 100 to reach the top level. The thresholds for other categories have also been revised. This change reflects feedback that suggested previous labels were too broad and positive.

Interface customization takes a leap forward with the Liquid Glass slider for the Lock Screen clock. The new feature allows users to adjust the transparency of the clock widget to clear, frosted, and solid; The last option is included for users who prefer a completely opaque look.

Smarter Apps and Expanded Features

Major built-in apps also saw meaningful upgrades. In Apple Podcasts, AI now not only generates episode chapters automatically but also provides links to the mentioned podcasts and organizes show links for better access. This development is in accordance with Apple's focus on more intelligent podcast experiences.

The Apple News app also underwent a layout change, which makes popular categories like sports, politics, business, and food accessible through buttons, making navigation easier.

AirPods Live Translation will expand into European Union countries, timed for the full release of iOS 26.2 later this year. The update also introduces improved reminders; for example, users can trigger alarms when urgent reminders are due and even bypass Focus modes for higher notification priority.

Under the hood, the beta reveals references to future features such as a longer-duration AirDrop sharing window (up to 30 days via PIN) and development of a new 'Apple Creator Studio' tool-bundle for pro users.

iOS 26.2 will be available for all iPhones that are compatible with iOS 26. The official launch is expected in December 2025. Until then, users able to join the public beta can test early, though they should expect some bugs and unfinished features inherent in pre-release software.

Overall, the update emphasizes visual refinement, smarter app features, and deeper customisation. With iOS 26.2 public beta now available, Apple is letting users preview the next step in the iPhone experience ahead of the full release.
