Apple has announced its September 9 annual hardware event, labeled ‘Awe-Dropping,’ to be held at its Cupertino office. Four iPhones will be launched as part of the new series: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The Pro models are the major attractions, with the most significant design overhauls and performance boosts in years.
Industry sources indicate that iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will be subject to a $50 price increase this year for increased input costs from new US tariffs. It would set their base prices at $1,049 and $1,249, respectively.
For Indian consumers, this means a probable hike in launch prices too, with the Pro Max, already among the priciest iPhones, likely to breach new levels. Apple will reportedly sanction the price hike with design, performance, and camera improvements targeted at its high-end user segment.
The Apple event will reveal a plan for a total overhaul. Industry insiders state that the back panels of the iPhone 17 Pro lineup are going to be altered completely. The trademark square-shaped camera bar will be ditched in favour of a horizontal stripe running along the back. Another major change is the anticipated move away from the Titanium finish of the iPhone 15 Pro range in favor of a half-glass, half-aluminium design.
A new Orange alternative will be added to the color palette alongside black, white, grey, and dark blue. Up front, Dynamic Island will be reduced in size somewhat, while Apple is said to be developing an anti-reflective coating for the display glass to reduce glare and improve durability.
The camera hardware is also in line for significant upgrades. The front camera can go from 12MP to 24MP, providing crisper selfies and allowing lossless 2x zoom cropping. The telephoto sensor is expected to receive a 48MP upgrade in the back, joining the wide and ultra-wide cameras. This would first position the iPhone 17 Pro lineup with an all-48MP triple-camera setup.

Under the hood, the Pro variants are likely to be powered by Apple’s A19 Pro processor based on TSMC’s new 3nm process. Coupled with 12GB of RAM (an increase from 8GB in the previous year), the fresh chip is said to support Apple Intelligence features in iOS 26 better and enhance multitasking.
Battery life can also experience a significant jump. iPhone 17 Pro Max is tipped to come with a 5,000mAh cell, a massive bump from last year’s 4,676mAh. Charging speeds are also set to be better, including 45W wired and 25W wireless charging, along with the ability for reverse wireless charging at 7.5W for accessories.
