Apple is set to unveil its first foldable iPhone Duo on September 9 at its Cupertino event. The launch begins at 10 am Pacific Time from the Steve Jobs Theater.
Apple expects the premium device to revive its image as an innovator while opening a new high-end smartphone category. The company plans to target buyers with a passport-style foldable design, dual screens, and powerful hardware.
The Apple foldable iPhone could start near USD 2,000 for 256GB storage, with premium versions approaching USD 3,000. The event also includes the iPhone 18 Pro, new Apple Watch models and AirPods. John Ternus will lead the major keynote after becoming Apple CEO earlier this month.
The iPhone Duo reportedly combines a 5.5-inch outer display with a 7.8-inch inner OLED screen. The larger panel targets multitasking, video viewing and tablet-style usage. Reports also point to an A20 Pro chip, dual 48MP rear cameras, and Touch ID.
Apple spent years developing the foldable, with hinge durability and screen creasing among major engineering challenges. The company reportedly developed a titanium and aluminum hinge with custom cover glass.
The premium pricing could become the biggest test for Apple's first foldable iPhone. Memory shortages have also pushed component costs higher during development. According to the reports, Apple may begin sales as early as October after the September announcement.
IDC analyst Nabila Popal expects strong demand despite the high price, calling the device potentially the “Birkin” of smartphones in China.
The launch therefore carries more than a new product promise for Apple. It marks a major design shift and an early technology test for Ternus.
