Anthropic is planning to sell shares worth up to 552.9 billion yen (around USD 3.5 billion) to Japanese investors ahead of its planned IPO. This plan came to light on November 2, 2026 through a filing. According to the filing, the AI-lab has stated that the money it will raise will be used to support its daily business, expand its operations and invest in new infrastructure.

However, the filing doesn’t clarify multiple details, including the final size or value of the planned IPO. It, anyway, didn’t stop investors from estimating the possible valuation, which is speculated to be around USD 1.5 trillion.

Japan is not the only market included in the share sale. Investors in Australia, Canada and parts of Europe will also get a chance to buy shares. The move comes after Japanese investors bought USD 2.2 billion worth of shares in SpaceX's USD 75 billion IPO in June. It was the largest public listing at the time.

Anthropic's plan could bring another major investment opportunity to Japanese buyers, especially as interest in AI companies continues to grow.

Why is Anthropic Looking At Japan For Its Next Big Fundraise?

Japan is becoming an important market for global tech companies looking to raise money. Its investors have shown interest in major overseas deals, including SpaceX's public listing. Additionally, the country also offers access to investors outside the US.

Anthropic's planned USD 3.5 billion share sale could make Japan an important part of its upcoming IPO. The response from Japanese investors will show how much interest global AI companies can attract beyond the US.
