Anthropic signed a USD 35 billion cloud computing deal with Nvidia-backed Lambda on August 31. The six-year agreement secured additional AI computing capacity for Claude products.

The deal covered a Texas data center developed by Hut 8 in Nueces County. Anthropic pursued the capacity as demand for generative AI services continued to rise.

Texas Data Center to Support Anthropic

The Texas facility offered about 350 megawatts of capacity for Nvidia-powered computing resources. Lambda planned to use the facility to provide computing power for Anthropic's AI operations

Nvidia also held the data center lease under the reported deal structure. The arrangement showed how AI companies secured infrastructure before major model launches.

Hut 8 developed the facility after shifting part of its business from crypto mining. The company had earlier signed a 15-year lease with an investment-grade customer. This contract carried a reported base-term value of USD 19.6 billion. Reports later identified Nvidia as the tenant.

Anthropic Boosts Computing Capacity

The Lambda agreement followed Anthropic's separate USD 45 billion cloud computing commitment with Nscale. That deal secured AI computing capacity from Nscale's West Virginia data center campus. Anthropic had therefore committed billions toward computing infrastructure within a short period.

The expansion also strengthened Anthropic's position against OpenAI and other AI developers. Demand for advanced Nvidia chips and data centers had pushed technology companies into massive infrastructure commitments. Anthropic also prepared for a potential public listing while expanding Claude and Claude Code

The companies did not confirm the USD 35 billion agreement publicly when Reuters reported the deal. Sources familiar with the project provided the reported value and arrangement details.
