Anthropic has reportedly agreed to spend $200 billion on Google Cloud and AI chips over five years, according to The Information. The deal would give the Claude AI maker access to cloud servers and Google’s custom chips as demand for AI computing power continues to rise.

The companies have not publicly confirmed the full terms. Because of that, the reported figure remains subject to confirmation.

Anthropic Deal Adds Weight to Google’s AI Cloud Business

The reported agreement would make Anthropic one of Google Cloud’s largest known AI customers. The contract is said to cover cloud access and chip capacity needed to train and run Claude models.

AI companies need large amounts of computing power to serve users and improve model performance. As demand grows, access to chips and data center space has become a major part of their business plans.

Google’s tensor processing units, or TPUs, are expected to play a central role in the reported deal. These chips are built for machine learning workloads and help Google compete with other cloud and chip providers.

The contract also shows how AI startups are spending large sums to secure future capacity. Instead of buying short-term access, companies are now signing multi-year agreements to support growth.

Anthropic Looks Beyond a Single Cloud Provider

Anthropic already uses several infrastructure partners to support Claude. Its systems run on a mix of Google TPUs, Amazon Trainium chips, and NVIDIA GPUs. This strategy helps the company avoid heavy reliance on one supplier. It also gives Anthropic more options as cloud capacity becomes harder to secure.

The company has also reached separate infrastructure agreements with Amazon and CoreWeave. Those deals provide access to cloud services, data centers, and NVIDIA-based systems.

However, the reported Google deal stands out because of its size. A $200 billion commitment over five years would place Anthropic among the biggest buyers of AI infrastructure.

AI Demand Drives Cloud Backlogs

Major cloud providers are seeing larger future revenue commitments from AI companies. Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Oracle are all competing to supply chips, servers, and cloud tools. Anthropic and OpenAI are among the firms driving this spending. Their models need constant access to powerful hardware for training, updates, and daily use.

The reported Anthropic contract would account for more than 40% of Google Cloud’s disclosed future commitments. That figure shows how much one AI customer could add to Google’s cloud pipeline.

Still, the details remain unconfirmed. Neither Google nor Anthropic has released a full public statement explaining the contract value, payment terms, or delivery schedule.

Alphabet Benefits from Infrastructure Demand

Alphabet shares gained after the report, as investors reacted to Google’s growing role in AI infrastructure. The company has spent heavily on cloud services, data centers, and custom chips.

Google also develops its own AI models through Gemini. At the same time, it sells cloud capacity to other AI companies, including potential rivals. This business model gives Alphabet two paths in the AI market. It can compete through its own products while also earning revenue from companies that need its infrastructure.

For Anthropic, the reported agreement could help ease capacity limits around Claude. For Google, it may support cloud growth over several years. However, until both companies confirm the full details, the deal remains a reported commitment.
