Anthropic is bringing Claude’s Chat and Cowork features together in a single interface, changing how users interact with the company’s AI assistant. The move means users can handle quick questions as well as larger, multi-step tasks within the same conversation, without choosing between separate tools.

The company says Claude can now determine what a task requires, removing the need for users to decide whether to use Chat, Cowork or Claude Design. The update also introduces Claude Docs and Claude Slides, while Claude Design is being integrated directly into conversations.

Claude Chat and Cowork Now Work Together

Until now, Claude Chat and Cowork served different purposes. Chat was designed for questions and work carried out within a conversation, while Cowork focused on delegating larger, multi-step tasks involving files and connected tools.

With the new approach, Claude can select the capabilities needed for a task. Anthropic says the change is intended to remove the need to switch between separate tools while allowing context, connectors and skills to remain available throughout a task.

This also builds on Anthropic’s broader effort to make Claude function as a more continuous assistant across different types of work.

New Claude Docs and Claude Slides Tools

The unified interface also brings new tools for creating documents and presentations. Anthropic is introducing Claude Docs and Claude Slides as part of the update.

Claude Design, meanwhile, is being integrated into conversations rather than remaining a separate experience. This means users can move between different types of work without leaving the same interaction.

Rollout Begins for Pro and Max Subscribers

Anthropic confirmed that the features are rolling out to Pro and Max subscribers over the coming weeks across web, desktop and mobile.

The company says the changes are designed to simplify the Claude experience by bringing different capabilities into one place. Users will no longer need to decide at the beginning of a task which Claude tool is appropriate, as the system can determine what the work requires.

The move comes as Claude increasingly supports longer-running, multi-step tasks alongside traditional conversational interactions. Anthropic’s own research shows that Chat and Cowork conversations are already being used for different forms of work, reflecting the expanding role of AI assistants beyond simple question-and-answer interactions.
