Anthropic rolled out a new Personal Finance feature for its Claude chatbot, placing the AI assistant directly into consumers’ everyday money decisions. The feature is now available in beta to eligible paid subscribers in the United States.
The launch marks a significant expansion of Claude beyond writing, coding, and research. Anthropic wants the chatbot to help users understand where their money goes, identify recurring costs, and prepare for upcoming bills.
Personal Finance lets users connect bank, credit card, loan, and investment accounts to Claude. The company collaborated with financial-data platform Plaid to enable secure account linking.
Users can ask questions in plain language, such as ‘Where did my money go this month?’or ‘Can I afford this purchase?’ Claude then reviews the linked account data and responds with a personalized financial overview.
The assistant can categorise spending, compare monthly expenses, flag duplicate charges, and highlight unusual fees. It can also track bills that increase over time and help users plan for upcoming payments.
Anthropic emphasised that the feature does not give Claude control over user funds. The access is strictly read-only, meaning the chatbot cannot transfer money, pay bills, manage accounts, or make investments.
The company said Claude can view account names and types, the last four digits of account numbers, balances, credit limits, and up to two years of transaction history. It cannot access full account numbers, passwords, or credentials.
The beta is initially available to Claude Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers in the US. Anthropic did not announce a timeline for a wider rollout or international availability.
The company added, “Personal Finance contains no advertisements or sponsored recommendations. It won't use conversations in the Personal Finance hub to train its AI models.” The launch also signals Anthropic’s push to deepen consumer engagement ahead of its anticipated public listing.
