Amazon launched Alexa+ in India, giving users free access during its Early Access period. For now, a limited number of Indian users can access this feature on their eligible devices, but the wider rollout will start later. The new AI-powered assistant is available on supported Echo speakers, smart displays, Fire TV devices and the Alexa app. Browser access is also planned.
Alexa+ can understand English, Hindi and Hinglish, while Amazon plans to add more Indian languages. Prime members will continue to get Alexa+ without an extra charge after Early Access. Country Manager for Alexa, Amazon India, Teena Sidana mentioned, “Indian households are multi-generational, multilingual, and beautifully complex. Alexa+ was designed for that complexity.”
She further added, “India is home to one of the most diverse set of customers in world, and we're excited for them to experience how much smarter, personalized, and more intuitive Alexa+ has become.”
Alexa+ is designed to handle normal conversations, not only simple commands. Users can continue speaking without saying “Alexa” before every request. It can also understand mixed Hindi and English. The assistant can control smart home devices, make shopping lists, track Amazon orders, and help compare products. It can also work with apps and services such as Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Prime Video and Netflix.
Language could be one of Alexa+’s biggest advantages in India. Users can move between English and Hindi in the same conversation. Alexa+ can also understand common Indian phrases and terms, including words such as “dhai baje” and “ek paav”.
The assistant can also connect with smart home products from brands such as Atomberg, Qubo, Dreame and Wipro. Amazon plans to add more services, including Swiggy, EazyDiner and MakeMyTrip. A strong consumer-focused angle covering eligibility, supported devices, languages, and the key differences from traditional Alexa.

Alexa+ is available to eligible users during Early Access. Prime members can use it without an added fee after the trial period. Other users will need a paid plan, which costs Rs. 2,000 per month.
